Apex Historical Society - In October, 1987, the Apex Historical Society was formed to capture and preserve history from the towns colorful past as a small, rural settlement and insure the character of that early time remains a part of the rapidly evolving community of today and help guide its future progress. Wake County Historical Society - The WCHS was formed in 1957 to help preserve the history of Wake County and educate people on important events that happened in Wake and surrounding counties. Historic Oakwood - Oakwood is a nineteenth century neighborhood and historic district located near downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. The Chapel Hill Historical Society is located at the Boundary Street entrance of the Chapel Hill Museum, 523 East Franklin Street, in the Historic District near the campus and downtown area. The name Chapel Hill Historical Society suggests a focus upon the town of Chapel Hill, but the organization actually is equally concerned with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, for the two are inseparable. Anson County Historical society - The Anson County Historical Society was formed in the 1950’s by a group of Ansonians interested in preserving the heritage of Anson County. The The society's funding is generally used for maintenance and upkeep of The Boggan-Hammond House and the Alexander-Little Wing furnished with period furniture and other artifacts representing everyday life in the late 1700’s and early to mid 1800’s. Highlands Historical Society - In 1979 a small group of Highlands residents shared a concern for the history of the town - the area was changing rapidly and historic structures were disappearing. The citizens formed the Highlands Historical Preservation Society, Inc., a non-profit organization, which unfortunately fell into inactivity. In 1999 it was reactivated as the Highlands Historical Society, Inc. for the same reasons it was originally formed. By 2000 the new society bought for the oldest house still standing in Highlands for its home and by 2002 was honored by the North Carolina Society of Historians for its progress as an an active society intent on preserving and promoting the heritage of Highlands. Kelly Historical Society -
Kelly is a small rural community in eastern North Carolina, almost in the "toe" of Bladen County. The Cape Fear River creates its boundary line on the south, flowing from mid-state into the Atlantic Ocean. One Saturday afternoon in the Fall of 2003, "Richard" and "Linda" happened to meet at the local dumpster. Linda said, "Richard, do you ever think about organizing a historical society in the Kelly area?" Richard replied, "All the time! Let's call a meeting and see if we can get things started.". Lawndale Historical Society - The Lawndale Historical Society was formed in 1993 and the Museum on the old Piedmont School grounds was dedicated in 1995. Located on the grounds of the former Piedmont School, the Lawndale Historical Museum preserves the community and family history of Lawndale and Upper Cleveland County. Exhibits include documents, photographs, and artifacts focusing on Cleveland Mills, the Piedmont School, and the residents of Lawndale. Read more... |
Macon County Historical Society & Museum - The Macon County Historical Society was born out of a concern for and desire to preserve the Nikwasi Indian Mound in Franklin, NC. The Lower Cape Fear Historical Society was founded in 1956 and is dedicated to the preservation and study of history in the Lower Cape Fear region. Its activities include restoration and exhibition of the Latimer House, a Victorian Italianate upper-class merchant's house in Wilmington's Historic District; the upkeep of the Society archives containing a wealth of local historic documents and publications; and a plethora of events, lectures, programs, and exhibits. Collettesville Historical Society - The village of Collettsville is located in the foot hills of western North Carolina in northwestern Caldwell County. The town is at the confluence of Mulberry Creek and Johns River. This neck of the woods covers the northwestern section of Caldwell County from Wilson Creek, including Johns River to Mulberry Creek.
